Program Description
Russell will discuss his selection criteria, philosophy, and process for selecting the entrants and discuss the top Mid-Atlantic winners. This will give each of us an insight into the thinking of our Juror.
BIOGRAPHY
Russell Jewell - Ed. D, AWS, TWSA, NWS
Russell Jewell is an internationally recognized plein air painter, published in multiple books and magazines such as: North Light’s Splash Series, The Best in Watercolor, Sketchbook Confidential II, The Artist Magazine, and Plein Air Magazine.
Mr. Jewell is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society and Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
Jewell has devoted over 35 years as an art educator in the public education system. Some of his educational recognitions include a doctorate in Art Education from the University of Georgia, Fulbright Memorial Scholar to Japan.
Russell Jewell holds a United States Patent for his Jewell-Box Viewfinder.
Jewell’s work has been purchased through multiple museum purchase awards.
Jewell’s most recent awards include: 2024 Best New Bern Painting in NC Plein Air @ New Bern and 2024 Best Agricultural Landscape in Gloucester Plein Air Festival Virginia. Jewell was honored to serve on the faculty of the 2024 Plein Air Convention Expo in Cherokee, NC. Jewell represented the Artist’s Alumni in 2024 at Plein Air Easton, Maryland where, in the past, he has won Best Watercolor twice, as well as, Artist’s Choice Award at Tilghman Island.
Russell Jewell recently was honored to exhibit in the 154th International American Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition. Jewell continues to exhibit and compete in plein air offering demos and workshops across America.
In 2024 Jewell was honored to participate as a member of the Plein Air Convention Expo Faculty.
