DEMONSTRATION INSTRUCTOR:

PAM WENGER  BWS, PWS, AWS, TWSA, NWS

The Baltimore Watercolor Society is excited to feature a demonstration with  nationally award winning artist Pam Wenger.  We will be watching Pam do a demonstration using the process she devised to produce beautiful loose colorful sketches and portraits of the people around her.

SUBJECT:

RELAXED PORTRAITS

Painting portraits in watercolor can seem like a daunting task, but many of us can’t resist the urge to try it. We may have a loved one who we’d like to paint or we may simply be drawn to the challenge of capturing an interesting character on paper. It’s so easy to “tighten up” our portrait paintings because of our focus on “getting it right”.
In this demonstration we will focus on loosening up the portrait painting process and working to achieve a more relaxed look that highlights the beauty and freshness of the watercolor medium.
Students will benefit from the demonstration.

    DEMONSTRATION PRICE:

$30 for BWS members (Signature Artists, Associates, and Students) and

    $35 for non-BWS members.

    BIOGRAPHY:

PAM WENGER  BWS, PWS, AWS, TWSA, NWS

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love art. Many of my best childhood memories revolve around art projects - either school projects…my own…or assignments my dad was always coming up with for me to do for the church where he was pastor. When I became an elementary teacher there were plenty of outlets for creativity, but it wasn’t until I retired in 2013 that I began to explore painting. I figured I’d try watercolor first because it would be easier and cheaper than oils (both incorrect assumptions!).

I'd taken some art classes in college and attended life drawing sessions at our local art associations, but working with color was something completely new for me. I began my journey by taking some basic watercolor classes at our local art association. I then attended workshops with Ted Nuttall and Charles Reid. Both of these artists have had a huge influence on my work. I continue to study with Ted’s master class each year and am also fortunate to count many amazing local artists among my friends. They keep me constantly inspired and challenged to grow as an artist.

I’m excited to begin a new teaching phase of my life as well. For the past three years, I’ve been teaching watercolor workshops for local and out of state watercolor organizations. I’m focusing on portraiture in watercolor, but have also taught some floral workshops. It’s an honor to be able to share my passion with fellow artists and to encourage them in their painting journey.

I have exhibited and won awards in National and Local shows, including the National Watercolor Society Show, Transparent Watercolor Society Show, American Watercolor Society Show, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society’s Juried Shows, Baltimore Watercolor Society’s Mid Atlantic Shows, Pennsylvania’s “Art of the State” and many local shows. My art can be viewed at www.pamwenger.com , https://www.facebook.com/pamwengerwatercolor/, and on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/pwenger32
